School is over, so now what? More time to sit at home at the computer or play video games? No way! Instead, head outside to the nearest park or playground and play one of my favorite games… TIME TRAVEL!
Equipment: Timer (phone, stopwatch) and two cones or spot markers (15 yards apart)
Objective: Time Travel is a game of time and speed. Each time traveler must run 2 laps down and back (cone to cone). When the time traveler is ready, he/she steps up to the launch pad. The time keeper counts down 5-4-3-2-1-GO and starts the clock. How fast did it take your time traveler to go into the future and back to the present? Let’s say it took 12 seconds. This time represents their standard. Moving forward, the time traveler must beat his/her previous time. For example, if the time traveler completes their next run in 11 seconds, they’re safe. However, if the time traveler runs the course in 12 seconds or more, then he/she would be lost in what I like to call the twilight zone 🙂 The only way out of the twilight zone is to perform an exercise of the time keeper’s choosing, for example, 10 push-ups, 10 jumping jacks, or a 10 second plank hold.
Who wants the burden of carrying a bunch of equipment outside? Use your imagination and come up with a creative game like Time Travel. This is an excellent game to get kids’ hearts pumping and their energy flowing.
I hope you enjoyed my tip of the month!
