Let’s be honest: the word “workout” doesn’t always spark excitement—especially with kids (or tired parents!). Luckily, movement doesn’t always need to look like an intense bootcamp with burpees and sprints.

Here are 5 ways to sneak in family fitness without anyone realizing it’s “exercise”:

  1. Dance Party – Turn up a playlist and go wild. Whether you’re cleaning the house, getting ready for school, making dinner, or just wanting to dance— music is an easy way to get the family moving!
  2. Nature scavenger hunt – Make a list and go searching in the park. A long walk is nothing to overlook and certainly counts as a workout.
  3. Obstacle course challenge – Indoors with pillows or outside with cones. The best part? You can sit back and relax while the kids tire themselves out! Obstacle courses, without doubt, always get my students excited!
  4. Charades — easily one of my favorite games to play and almost always get the kids excited about our workouts. Exercise doesn’t have to be strenuous. Sometimes— it can be silly!
  5. “Just one more” Rule – before everyone sits down for screen time, make it a family tradition to do “just one more” movement. It can be one set of squats, 10 pushups, or a silly 30s dance party. Keeping it light hearted and goofy will make for a fun little family tradition!

The best kind of movement is any movement — it doesn’t need to be fancy or strenuous to be effective!
